- Portable multi-function tester performs 2-clamp testing (no auxiliary rods), 2- and 4-wire bond resistance testing, 3- and 4-point ground resistance testing, ground coupling, selective ground resistance, and soil resistivity testing, and is suitable for rugged field conditions.
- Designed for ease of use with "connect-press-read" operation, a large easy-to-read LCD screen, and user alerts.
- Selectable manual or automatic test frequency scan mode of 41 to 513Hz provides higher test accuracy in electrically noisy environments.
- Stores up to 512 complete test results in memory for data in the field and then analyzing readings when convenient.
- Includes software that enables remote set-up and operation of all measurements and automatically generates reports.
The AEMC 6471 multi-function digital ground resistance tester
with AC current probes and 300 ft. leads performs 2-clamp
testing, 2- and 4-wire bond resistance testing, 3- and 4-point
ground resistance testing, ground coupling, selective ground
resistance, and soil resistivity testing in rugged conditions,
such as field maintenance with numerous tests. The tester is
designed for ease of use with “connect–press–read” operation, a
large easy-to-read LCD screen, and user alerts. For higher
accuracy in electrically noisy environments, the tester can be
operated in manual or automatic frequency scan mode from 41 to
513Hz. Test voltage of 16V or 32V can be selected up to 250
milliAmp (mA) test current. The tester automatically recognizes
all electrode connections and their resistance value. The auto
power-off feature turns off the tester after a set period for
power management.
The tester’s software (included) is compatible with Microsoft
Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8. It enables
remote set-up and operation of all measurements, and provides
data storage, real-time display, analysis, report generation, and
system configuration. Up to 512 complete test results can be
stored in memory for data in the field and then
analyzing readings when convenient. After taking measurements,
reports are automatically generated.
The AEMC 6471 exceeds IEC mechanical and safety specifications
for shock, vibration, and drop tests. The double-insulated tester
is compliant with grounding standards IEC 61557 parts 4 and 5.
Safety ratings include EN 61010-1, CAT IV 50V, and
degree 2. When closed, the carrying case has an IP 54 rating that
protects the instrument from dust and water. The tester kit
includes two current probes (clamps), two 300ft. color-coded
leads on spools (one red, one blue), two hand-tied 100ft. leads
(one green, one black), four 14.5" T-shaped auxiliary ground
electrodes, five spaded lugs, 100ft. tape measure, DataView
software, rechargeable NiMH battery pack, optical USB cable,
110/240V power adapter with 115V U.S. power cord, ground testing
workbook and DVD, and two carrying bags for the meter and the
kit. When closed, the carrying case has an IP 54 rating that
protects the instrument from dust and water.

Ground-resistance meters test the condition of a grounding
system, and provide resistivity measurements in ohms. The meters
are available in digital, analog, and clamp models. Grounding
systems protect people and equipment, and provide a safe path for
the dissipation of fault currents, lightning strikes, static
discharges, EMI and RFI signals, and interference. Regular
testing of a grounding system is important for safety and
protection of equipment. For example, corrosive soil with high
moisture content can degrade ground rods and connections in
existing systems and increase the resistance of the system.
Ground-resistance meters are used in conjunction with a variety
of testing methods to troubleshoot intermittent electrical
problems or as part of a regular maintenance plan.
AEMC Instruments manufactures electrical testing and measurement
instruments, including clamp meters, power quality analyzers,
ground resistance testers, and data loggers. The company, founded
in 1893, is headquartered in Foxborough, MA.
